The Morot 2008 Beaune Bressandes offers smoked meat, game, curry, and dark berries on the nose and on a palate rather obviously undergirded by tannin that results in a slight finishing clenching. That said, this certainly preserves vintage typical brightness. Once more CO2 has dissipated from its almost absurdly late malo-lactic transformation it may well show sweetness and textural nuance that are missing for now. It’s one of those many 2008s that seems capable of retaining freshness for 7-10 years, but whose justification for cellaring is at this stage by no means clear.
Geoffrey Choppin de Janvry was among those growers to report that more rigorous sorting was required for his 2008 fruit than had been needed the previous vintage. I tasted his 2008s from tank, where they were spending a bit longer than usual, in order to gas-out after very late malos.
