An extraordinary wine, the 2007 Puligny-Montrachet En La Richarde blossoms in the decanter to reveal aromas of crisp orchard fruit, citrus oil, fresh hazelnuts, blanched almonds, iodine and fresh bread. Full-bodied, layered and incisive, it's chiseled and tightly wound, with immense concentration and depth. As it unwinds over the course of several hours, its true plenitude and indeed profundity becomes apparent. Released only this year, it merits further bottle age, but anyone curious to try one now—as I was—should plan on decanting the wine for several hours to experience all its delights.
