The 2013 Beaune les Aigrots 1er Cru, which lost 90% of its crop due to hail in 2013, has a rather austere bouquet with damp soil/forest floor scents emerging from the glass. The palate is crisp and taut with citrus lemon, touches of hazelnut that lend it a Meursault-like personality. Moderate rather than long in length, this is a fine Beaune premier cru despite the hail.
