Also advanced in color, but showing slightly more fruit was the spicy, somewhat oily, marmalade-laden, slightly oxidized and compact 2005 Chardonnay Dutton Ranch. This came across more like a wine from the C?te du Jura than a California Chardonnay, but it is on its way to the grave. Readers who have it need to move quickly.

Patz & Hall has captured the cool-climate essence of southern Sonoma Chard with this dry, crisply acidic, and vibrantly fruity young wine. Might have benefitted from less new oak though, because the caramel and toast seem a little excessive.——S.H.(12/15/2007)—— 86
