The 1998 Pinot Noir Hyde Vineyard, which was largely made from Dijon clone 113 as well as the Joseph Swan selection, was aged in 80% new French oak and bottled without filtration. This was superb. Dark ruby/garnet, with a stunning nose of fresh porcini mushrooms, black cherries, forest floor and a round, juicy texture and finish. I am surprised at the youthfulness and freshness of this wine, and how well it was showing, as the vintage is generally considered a relatively challenging one for most red varietals in Northern California. This wine has at least another 5-10 years in it.
