The only 1997 Chardonnay I tasted is the 1997 Chardonnay Mays Canyon, which appears to be an elegant, Burgundian-styled wine with excellent richness, an attractive, leesy, gravelly nose intertwined with tropical fruits, mango, and tangerine notes. The oak was barely discernable in this medium to full-bodied, complex, potentially outstanding Chardonnay that should age well for 4-5 years.
Littoria's 1997 Chardonnays were still finishing their malolactic fermentation when I visited, so I was not able to taste the new offerings. Moreover, there will no longer be a Chardonnay offered from the Occidental Vineyard on the Sonoma Coast.
As I said before, virtually the entire production of Littorai is sold via a mailing list ... readers take note. Tel. (707) 963-4762; Fax (707) 963-7332
