Fashioned from must purchased from 65-year-old vines, the 2002 Meursault Clos du Cromin, aged in one-third in new oak barrels, is an outstanding wine. Its rich, vanilla-laced, spicy scents explode from the glass. This is a big, broad, lush, deep wine. Its sappy apple-laced personality is juicy, satiny-textured, and exhibits gorgeous balance. In its long, flavorful finish can be found nutmeg, ginger, vanilla, and poached pears. According to Gambal, prior to fermentation, it tasted like “apple juice with honey stirred in it.” Drink it over the next 4-5 years.
