The 1999 Zinfandel Samsel Vineyard Maggie's Reserve (a whopping 15.2% alcohol) includes 5% Alicante Bouchet in the blend. Planted in 1901, this vineyard is celebrating its 100th birthday. The dense ruby/purple-colored 1999 offers jammy, sweet kirsch liqueur, pepper, spice, and blackberry aromas. The wine's high alcohol provides plenty of glycerin as well as a full-bodied, voluptuous feel in the mouth. There is admirable purity, fine balance, and a multilayered, super-concentrated finish.
