The 1995 Zinfandel Samsel Vineyard Maggie's Reserve offers a dark, nearly opaque ruby/purple color, and a toasty, spicy nose of vanillin, black-cherries, underbrush, and pepper. Lusciously rich, ripe fruit hits the palate in layers in this multidimensional, full-bodied, well-balanced Zinfandel. It reveals none of the austerity, high acidity, or annoyingly sharp tannin found in so many wines from this vintage. Admirers of sweet black-cherry aromas and flavors will be especially turned on by this offering. Drink it over the next 5-6 years. Dr. Rosenblum, one of California's most noteworthy practitioners of Zinfandel winemaking, has once again turned out a bevy of fine wines. There seems to be less difference between the individual Zinfandels than in recent years, but certainly the overall level of quality, with the exception of the Richard Sauret Vineyard offering, is reassuringly high.
