The three top premiers crus Beaunes in 1990 include the Beaune-Les Bressandes, Beaune-Les Marconnets, and Beaune-Les Teurons. The full-bodied, dense 1990 Beaune-Les Marconnets possesses a super-ripe nose and high tannins, as well as impressive extraction of fruit. Made from a vineyard with vines that average 35-39 years of age, this long, rich wine has impeccable balance and purity, and is capable of 15-20 years of longevity. Francoise Choppin bottled her 1990s relatively early, in November, 1991, and I have had the opportunity to taste through them twice. While they were impressive immediately after bottling, they have recently closed up. It should be noted that the Albert Morot red burgundies are among the most reasonably priced.
