I tasted a representative blend of the 2018 St Andrews Shiraz that was assembled out of several barrels, and it's even more promising than the 2017. It's brighter and fresher on the nose, with bigger and redder fruit notes. It's also full-bodied and plush, loaded with cherries and raspberries, all on a plush cushion of creamy, vanilla-laden oak.

Toasty, creamy and loaded up with vanilla, baking spices and ripe plums, the barrel-fermented 2017 St Andrews Shiraz is full-bodied and amazingly supple, with a broad, voluptuous mouthfeel that's balanced by a long, spice-driven finish.

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2012 Wakefield St Andrews Shiraz shows red and black plums, mulberries and fragrant earth aromas with accents of Szechuan pepper and anise. While the oak is prominent on nose, it swamps the full-bodied palate along with a good concentration of fruit, firm and chewy tannins and a long, oaky finish.
