The estate’s flagship wine is the 2007 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Gaso. Basaltic lava soils have helped to shape a focused and sharp expression of Amarone that presents its aromas of dried fruit and spice with utmost precision. The wine sees 36 months in botte grande and these large casks create the conditions for enhanced fruit nuances (as opposed to heavy oak toast). The 2007 vintage is characterized by higher dry extract and power (the alcohol reads 16%) and you get both in this wine. Its success ultimately comes from the balance and overall harmony it demonstrates on the finish. Drink 2014-2024.
San Rustico has existed since 1870 and is now in the fourth generation of family ownership. The winery has developed a good following thanks to its Amarone from the prized Gaso vineyards, located 350 meters above sea level with red volcanic soils. Gaso wines are highly marked by their territory.
