Here's a hearty and savory wine that opens immediately to smoky tones of resin and tar and lots of rich black fruit. The 2017 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico has dried plum and blackberry, but those aromas play a supporting role to spice, cured leather and earth. This is a full-bodied Amarone, with a brawny personality and a powerful 16.5% alcohol content. This blend of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and other local grapes is released in a production of 20,000 bottles.

Elegant, this medium-bodied and well-knit version delivers a pure beam of dried cherry fruit accented by pretty spice box, dried mint and singed orange peel notes. Lightly chewy on the subtle finish. From a classic vintage, the Brigaldara 2016 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico offers elegance and power (with a hearty 16.5% alcohol content). The wine is redolent of dried fruit, baked cherry and plum, as well as sweet spice and tobacco. The density is not overblown, and indeed, the wine is full-bodied but not in an overwhelming sense like you might anticipate. The mouthfeel is smooth and velvety. The blend is 47% Corvina, 39% Corvinone, 6% Rondinella and 8% other complementary grapes. It ages in barrique for one year and in large oak casks for an additional two years.
