Aromas of cherries and cranberries, subtle notes of ground spices with a floral and citrusy character to it. Medium-bodied with a bright red-fruited character and dusty texture to its tannins. Savory and juicy. From organically grown grapes. Vegan. Very attractive, but better after 2026.

The classic Fontanafredda 2017 Barolo is a fine and polished wine with a bright and lifted bouquet. Aromas of wild cherry, licorice and crushed stone emerge in easy layers. To the palate, the wine is quite streamlined and silky. Important to note is that those hot-vintage 2017 tannins are nicely compacted and integrated here, enough so to even consider an unorthodox Barolo pairing with a super-fatty charred salmon steak on the grill. An impressive 300,000 bottles were made.
