The 2011 Barolo represents a good effort by Fontanafredda, but ultimately the wine does not have the clarity or sharp focus that you get with previously vintages. The summer heat has dampened some of the vibrancy of the fruit in this case. Soft cherry, exotic spice and dried blackberry open the bouquet. Similar flavors give the wine a round and rich texture, although the results are rather simplistic and predictable.

Graphite, leather, earth and eucalyptus aromas and flavors highlight this taut, chewy red. Balanced, with a vibrant structure and a long finish evoking licorice, tar and soy. Best from 2018 through 2029. 10,000 cases made.??–BS??Region: Italy / Piedmont / Barolo Select to Add
