An equal-parts blend of Clairette, Grenache Blanc and Roussanne, matured 18 months in a mix of vessels, the 2020 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc Cuvée A Tempo is tight and fresh, medium-bodied, clean and crispy, with hints of toast, white peaches and citrus. I'm still not 100% sold on the style, which to me tastes like a CdP that's trying to be a white Burgundy, but it looks as if it just might improve with age, unlike many of its peers.

Bottled in May 2021, the 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc Cuvée A Tempo is a mix of Clairette, Grenache Blanc and Roussanne, made in a mix of barrels and concrete eggs. It's a bit riper and richer than the 2020, with hints of honeycomb, white peaches and citrus on the nose. It's medium to full-bodied, creamy across the mid-palate, then long and zesty on the finish.

One of the best white Chateauneufs I've tasted—outdoing its fine performance last year prior to bottling—the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc Cuvee A Tempo is equal parts Clairette, Grenache Blanc and Roussanne, vinified and aged in a combination of barrique, concrete egg and stainless steel. Full-bodied, rich and lush, it shows honeyed bergamot and pineapple fruit balanced by clean citrus and anise notes. Bravo!
