The 2013 Etna Bianco Biancodicaselle is an impeccably made white wine based on the native Carricante grape. The wine shows soft contours with delicate layers of yellow rose, honey and candied lemon rind. The bouquet is balanced and fragrant but the mouth shows more grit, tightness and determination instead. In fact, the wine's mineral qualities come through clearly on the palate. Fruit comes from two sources: The east side of Etna (the Contrada Caselle) and the southeast side of the volcano (the Contrada Cavaliere). This wine should be consumed over the next three years.

The 2012 Etna Bianco Biancodicaselle is100% Carricante from two sites: The Contrada Caselle on the East side of Etna at up to 800 meters above sea level and the Contrada Cavaliere on the southwest of the volcano at 900 meters above sea level. This is a deliciously crisp and luminous white wine with a strong mineral vein of brimstone and lead pencil that runs straight through it. There’s an attractive lightness and levity to its overall personality. Drink 2014-2016. Benanti has led efforts to raise Etna to the winemaking heights it enjoys today. Back when the notion of Contrade (Etna subzones) was a hazily defined fledgling idea, the Benanti family was carefully experimenting with indigenous grapes planted at various altitudes and locations on the massive cone of the volcano.
