The 2000 Barolo, the regular bottling, with elegant cherry fruit and light notes of anisette and herbs, is medium-bodied but of good length and persistence, forward in its development and already drinking well, though there is no reason not to believe that it will not last another decade.
Einaudi is a name to reckon with in Italy – Luigi Einaudi, whose family still owns these vineyards, was a widely esteemed economist and one of the first presidents of Italy in the post-war period. The wines have taken a substantial leap in quality since the mid-1990s with the assistance of oenologist Beppe Caviola, and this is an excellent group.
