The 1999 Barolo, the regular bottling, ripe and fragrant on the nose, offers a medium body and structure, light-grained tannins, and attractive notes of tar and chocolate on the finish. Not a powerhouse, but deftly made, it will nonetheless still be drinking well in 2015.
Einaudi was founded by one of Italy’s major twentieth century statesmen, a highly considered economist by training and later president of the Italian republic. The wines, well made and characterful, deserve to be better known.
