The 2007 Al Passo is 80% Sangiovese and 20% Merlot that flows effortlessly to a round, explosive finish layered with expressive dark fruit, flowers and spices. It shows marvelous density and richness in an opulent, full-bodied style. Floral notes reappear on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022.
This is another strong set of wines from Tolaini, an estate that continues to show significant improvement. Pier Luigi Tolaini had previously focused solely on international-styled blends, but in 2008 there is a new Chianti Classico Riserva. The sweet spot in this lineup is with the mid-priced bottlings.
