The 2005 Al Passo (85% Sangiovese, 15% Merlot) possesses much Sangiovese character in its red cherries, tobacco, earthiness and herbs. There is good persistence here, but the tannins completely overwhelm the wine. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2015.
Pierluigi Tolaini’s wines continue to improve, something that is especially notable considering the relative weakness of the 2005 vintage.
