Jaboulet's 1995 southern reds offer plenty about which to get excited, particularly some of the value-priced wines from less prestigious appellations. The 1995 Gigondas Pierre Aiguille is a more rustic wine, with an herbes de Provence/garrigue, earthy component, deep ruby color, a spicy, medium-bodied personality, and good fruit and length. Tasted side by side with the Cotes du Rhone Villages and Cotes du Rhone Parallel 45, I would opt for the latter two wines over the more expensive Gigondas.
This wine was tasted between June 1 and June 16, 1996.
