One-third of the 1997 Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot was aged in new oak, with the balance in first and second year barrels. It has a toasty, earthy, and ripe pear-filled nose as well as an oily-textured medium body. This is an easy-going wine, with loads of glycerin, flavors reminiscent of cotton candy, and a delightful spice from the judicious usage of oak. The addition of artificial acid (a technique commonly used in California and Australia) was not noticeable in either its character of finish. Drink this offering over the next 3-4 years.
