Tasted at the Armagh Hut with Sam and Tom Barry, the 2005 The Florita Riesling leads with pine needles, walnuts and creamed cashews—it is maturing. It is so creamy actually—soft, long, firm, plump… all things to all people. It is very long on the palate, and the acidity is pert and savory. It is not as powerful in the fruit profile.

The medium straw-colored 2005 Florita Riesling, from a vineyard planted in 1962 on its own roots, is a selection of its best fruit. The nose offers up grapefruit, lime, and mineral, leading to a full-flavored, intense Riesling that should evolve for another 5-7 years. This lengthy effort should drink well through 2020. Jim Barry’s flagship wine is The Armagh Shiraz. This second vintage of Barry’s Florita Riesling is excellent. Its flour-like, dusty mouthfeel follows light floral, minerally aromatics. On the palate it’s blissfully dry, with lively acidity and dusty citrus flavors. Finish is persistent; delicious throughout.——D.T.(11/15/2006)—— 92
