The 2012 Bienvenue-Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru comes from negoce fruit. It has a perfumed nose with touches of wilted yellow flowers and honeysuckle aromas gently wafting from the glass. The palate is well-balanced with nicely interwoven new oak (between a judicious 30 and 35%), commendable focus and a precise and focused finish, if not the finesse of say, Jacques Carillon’s Bienvenue, tasted the same morning. Still, this is an attractive white Burgundy that should evolve for 15 years.
