Notes of red berries, orange rind, warm spices and peonies introduce the 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge Vieilles Vignes, a medium-bodied, supple and fleshy wine underpinned by a tangy spine of acidity. It's as fine a rendition of this cuvée as I can remember tasting.

Revealing notes of cherries, raspberries and spices, the 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge Vieilles Vignes is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and youthfully chewy, with a flavorful, slightly rustic finish.

Bursting with aromas of minty red berries, spices and sweet soil tones, the 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge Vieilles Vignes is medium to full-bodied, ample and succulent, with a generous core of fruit framed by melting tannins. This is already drinking well.

The 2016 Chassagne Montrachet Rouge Vieilles Vignes, which is raised in around 10% new oak, offers strawberry pastille and cranberry leaf on the nose. The palate is a little sharp around the edges, grainy in texture, yet there is a core of chalky red fruit that is simple but appealing.

The 2015 Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge Vieilles Vignes, from 70-year-old vines located in three parcels, has a lovely nose, a touch of damp mulch tincturing the lively red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit. It almost seems like there is some stem addition, but in fact it is 100% de-stemmy. The palate is well balanced with a gentle grip on the entry, fleshier than many red Chassagne 2015s, perhaps reflecting the warmth of the growing season, a slight grittiness on the texture towards the finish. This is very fine.
