The Cottanera 2022 Etna Rosato is beautiful in the glass, with pink, gold and copper highlights. The wine's color is achieved with just three or four hours of skin contact and finishes in steel. Fruit for this wine comes from a vineyard site that is specifically farmed to make rosé. The bouquet leans toward floral aromas at the front and fruity aromas at the back. It shows balance and precision with a mineral-driven finish. Proprietor Francesco Cambria tells me that 2022 was a hot and dry year and that 2021 was more balanced overall. This is one of my favorite Italian rosés, especially at this price point.

The Cottanera 2021 Etna Rosato is crisp and snappy with fresh acidity and lots of citrusy aromas. The wine reveals a slightly pinkish hue with copper highlights. There is bitter almond and white flower, grapefruit and unripe peach. A strong mineral component adds to the linear freshness of this easy-drinking Sicilian rosé. Some 30,000 bottles were released.

The 2020 Etna Rosato (with 20,000 bottles made) opens to a pale pink color and lots of shiny luminosity. This is a crisp and simple rosé made with Nerello Mascalese that offers basic perfumes of cranberry, pink grapefruit and crushed stone. Winemaking is executed in stainless steel, and the fruit comes from a site with characteristic lava clay soils. It's funny to imagine a wine as light as this from one of the most extreme and violent environments in the greater Italian landscape. This 2020 vintage is less concentrated compared to 2019.

Showing an elegant pale pink color with polished copper highlights, the Cottanera 2019 Etna Rosato is a fabulous wine and one that transports you to an imaginary world of sand beaches and sunshine. In reality, this delicate rosé is born in the blackened volcanic soils of Etna. However, its sunny disposition suggests purity and transparency. The bouquet offers sour cherry and cranberry with hints of rosemary essence and crushed stone. These are gorgeous results that will appeal to all lovers of rosé wine. Some 20,000 bottles were made.
