The 2009 Sa Natura was made from organically certified fruit consisting of 30% Carinena, 20% Garnacha, 20% Syrah, with the balance Merlot and Petit Verdot aged in barrel for 6 months. It is a bit more deeply colored and has elevated acidity compared to its non-organic sibling. It gives up a pleasing perfume of mineral, spice box, cedar, and assorted black fruits leading to a firmly structured, very Mediterranean wine with good grip and length. It is also a good value for drinking over the next 4-5 years. The 2008 Sacra Natura is certified organic. It is a blend of 35% Carinena, 20% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Syrah, and 10% Tempranillo aged in barrel for 6 months. Aromas of licorice, mineral, underbrush, blueberry, blackberry, and plum jump from the glass. This is followed by a sweet, ripe, voluminous offering with excellent density and concentration. Dense and nearly impenetrable on the palate, it will require 3-5 years to show its full potential. Purple-colored, it offers up an enticing nose of cedar, tobacco, pencil lead, blueberry, and blackberry. This leads to a medium to full-bodied, layered wine with complex flavors, gobs of ripe fruit, and 2-3 years of aging potential. Drink this outstanding value in organic wine over the next 6-8 years. Celler Vinos Pinol was founded in 1945 by Josep Arrufi. The fourth generation currently runs the estate which consists of 100 acres in Terra Alta, a D.O. which is just a bit drier and warmer than neighboring Montsant and Priorat.
