The 2012 Pinot Noir Looney Vineyard comes from Ribbon Ridge instead of Dundee Hills, on silica-rich fractured sandstone soils, aged for 10 months using 34% new French oak. The nose is more backward than expected, at least at the moment, with raspberry and wild strawberry scents that will need 12 months in bottle to unfold. The palate is medium-bodied with touches of dark chocolate and cedar on the entry. Quite masculine in style and missing a little persistence, it deserves a year or two in bottle to really unwind.
