The 2007 Wurzer displays a light, peachy nose that makes way for more lychee, apple and white flower aromas. The palate is very vibrant, fizzes on the tongue with peach, nectarine and a touch of jasmine towards the finish that has good length. Very fine. There are only 25 hectares of the Wurzer grape variety planted in the world (a cross between Gewurztraminer and Muller-Thurgau) and Seifried own one-hectare of it. Seifried is one of Nelson’s oldest wineries, founded in 1973 by Austrian-born Hermann Seifried and his Kiwi wife Agnes Seifried in the Moutere Valley. They currently farm around 160 hectares and their new winery came on-line in 1996 on Rabbit Island adjacent to their first 60-hectare vineyard that was planted in 1988.
