Tannic and backward, the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot and the rest Malbec. Harvest here started extremely early, toward the end of the third week of August. This wine is still young and needs another 4-5 years of bottle age. High tannins, loads of oak, chocolate and black fruits intermixed with tobacco leaf and a slight herbaceousness are part of this full-bodied, powerful, yet surprisingly meaty and masculine Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is meant for long-term cellaring and certainly has 20 years of upside to it, but the tannins still need to resolve. Absolutely spectacular now, this is one of the strongest vintages of a wine once featured as the Wine Spectator “Wine of the Year.”
