An outstanding wine, the 2014 Chardonnay Califa is 100% Chardonnay that comes from the limestone and shale soils of the Chamisal vineyard in the Edna Valley. Coming from two higher elevation parcels and aged 16 months in 50% new French oak, it has terrific notes of buttered apples, spice, peach and toasted bread to go with a medium-bodied, fresh and elegant style on the palate that carries good acidity and length. Drink this classy Chardonnay over the coming 3-4 years, although it could evolve for longer as well.
