From a parcel purchased by Virginie and Romain Taupenot in 1999, the 2011 Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Les Pruliers has more weight and girth on the nose, offering pure raspberry and strawberry aromas curled around enticing mineral scents. The palate has an attractive supple red berry fruit, red cherries and raspberry that are interlaced by fine tannins. However, it is missing a little cohesion toward the finish. Still, there is a good length here and it should drink well over the next 8-10 years. Drink now-2020.
Taupenot-Merme was my final visit of the week. I have been following these wines for a number of years, even predating my wine writing career. Winemaker Romain Taupenot and his sister Virginie run the domaine in the centre of Morey-Saint-Denis and fashion a classical style of Burgundy wine that I feel has improved in recent years. Their 2011s are well-crafted and are mainly predesigned for early to mid-term consumption.
