Another wine that I have enjoyed in other vintages, the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Coliseum Block is a stunner. This actually tastes like a two-year-old barrel sample, or a recently bottled Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa – it’s remarkably fresh, vigorous and inky/purple to the rim. This has a knockout nose of incense, graphite, crème de cassis and blackberries. This is killer Cabernet Sauvignon and a real tour de force. Certainly ripe (14.8% natural alcohol), but really fresh and lively, this is Mark Carter at his best, and this guy is good. This full-bodied classic of Napa should continue to drink well for another 20-25 years.
