Aged for three years in large oak casks, the 2009 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a plump and beautiful expression with soft layers of dried cherry, blackberry and blackcurrant. The spicy oak element is noticeable with cinnamon and nutmeg woven nicely between dry tones of crushed mineral and licorice. The 2009 vintage does't have the same complexity as 2010, but it offers a smooth and steady expression of Sangiovese to pair with succulent cuts of red meat or game dishes. In fact, the 2009 vintage is ultimately more food friendly and ready-to-drink than 2010.
