An impressive effort in this challenging vintage, the 2004 Mercurey 1er Cru Clos de Champs Martin Cuvée Carline offers up aromas of plums, cedar, warm spices and some of the tomato and blackcurrant leaf herbal signatures so typical of the year. Medium to full-bodied, ample and open-knit, with powdery tannins that assert themselves on the finish, it has aged well.
