A prodigious effort from Carlisle, the 1999 Two Acres (73 cases of a weird blend of 62% Mourvedre, 28% Petite Sirah, 8% Valdepenas, and 2% Alicante Bouchet) boasts a sensational inky purple color as well as a sweet perfume of smoked meats, pepper, black fruits, graphite, and cassis. Deep, rich, and full-bodied, with sweet tannin, adequate acidity, and a 30-second finish, its ageability is unknown, but with the large Mourvedre component, it should be significant. Anticipated maturity: now-2012+.
