Morot's 2006 Beaune Aigrots offers a bright and refreshingly tartly-fruited experience, shading more in the direction of black fruits (plum, blackberry) than several of its stable mates, along with black tea and a decidedly chalky, stony undertone. Clean, marrow-like meatiness offers a fascinating foil to the invigoration of fruit skin and salinity as well as the tactile suggestions of chalk in its satisfyingly juicy, long finish. Choppin de Janvry thinks this wine's personality continues to be marked by its having been his sole 2006 to experience a late and protracted malo-lactic transformation. It should be worth following for 4-5 years.
After waiting to harvest until only the last four or five days of September, Geoffrey Choppin de Janvry reports having done a rigorous sorting and ultimately assembling his 2006s earlier than usual – in February, with bottling a month later – in order to preserve fruit.
