The 2003 Barolo Cerretta is the fresher of these two offerings. It is deeply-colored generous Barolo with plenty of up-front appeal in its ripe fruit. Made in a full-bodied, ample style, it offers outstanding length although the hard tannins attenuate the finish on the close. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2016.
This small, family-run estate in Serralunga continues to demonstrate promise under the direction of proprietor Sergio Germano. These 2003 Barolos are both solid efforts. The wines closed down pretty dramatically in the glass and they are both likely to require a few years of cellaring prior to offering their best drinking.
