In 1995, Dominique Laurent crafted three reference point Pommards. The black/purple-colored extraordinary Pommard Rugiens roars out of the glass with hugely sweet cherry and perfumed aromas. It possesses mind-blowing, super-concentrated flavors of candied cherries, blackberries and red currants intermingled with dried plums and raisins in its massively endowed, thick-textured and incredibly long flavor profile. This extraordinary Pommard has all the components for long term cellaring - perfect structure, superb balance, copious but supple tannins, huge quantities of fruit, and awesome ripeness. It amazes me that this wine, subjected to Laurent's "200% new oak" technique, has perfectly integrated wood flavors! Amazing! Anticipated maturity: 2002-2015.
As always, ratings with a score in parentheses indicate the wine was tasted from cask, not bottle.
