The 2007 Barolo Bricco delle Viole has just been bottled, but that doesn’t seem to get in the way of a terrific showing. It is a beautiful wine graced with tons of delineation and sheer intensity. The aromas and flavors build effortlessly to a hugely impressive, dazzling finish. The 2007 shows the volume and depth of the vintage, but with the expressive bouquet and overall harmony that define the finest wines of the year. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027. This is another superb set of wines from Aldo and Milena Vajra. What else is new? I am sure one day the Vajras will receive the broader recognition they so richly deserve. This is ripe, showing plum and black cherry aromas and flavors, along with an iron note and a structure of big, burly tannins. Awkward now, and balanced on the dry side, yet with sweet fruit.
