This wine is bright ruby-colored, and offers an expressive nose of deeply ripe cassis and black cherries. It is medium-to-full-bodied, thickly-textured, and filled with layer after layer of sweet red cherries, together with traces of minerals and stones. Drink this beauty between 1999 and 2004.
The young and talented Arnauld Ente produces excellent red wines in addition to his first-rate whites. When I visited him he allowed me to taste two reds, a delicious Bourgogne Grand Ordinaire made from 100% Gamay, and this wonderful Volnay Santenots (du Milieu).
Note: Readers may remember that in my report on white Burgundies I stated that Arnauld Ente did not have a US importer. Starting with the 1997 vintage he will be represented by Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant, Berkeley, CA; tel (510) 524-1524.)
