The 1980 Volnay 1er Cru Les Chevrets from Henri Boillot delivered a fine performance in a vintage more celebrated in the C?te de Nuits than the C?te de Beaune. Mingling notions of smoky berry fruit with hints of peonies and forest floor, it's medium to full-bodied, with a charming core of fruit, tangy acids and largely melted tannins that nevertheless assert themselves on the slightly rustic finish.
