The two 1995 Tokay-Pinot Gris offerings I tasted both possessed high extraction of flavor, stunning backbone and grip, and the vintage's tell-tale lofty acidity. The off-dry 1995 Tokay-Pinot Gris Cuvee Laurence tastes like a Vendange Tardive. The wine has some residual sugar, but the acidity is so high that most readers would consider it to be dry. The intriguing nose of lemon grass, honeyed apricots, white peaches, and marmalade offers a dramatic introduction to this full-bodied, remarkably fresh wine that offers massive doses of power and extract - all allied to unreal elegance and finesse. It is a winemaking tour de force. The ZH wines tend to be slightly sweeter, with higher alcohol.
