Lovers of esoteric wines will get a charge from this effort from the island of Majorca. Produced from a blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and a local grape called Callet, it was aged for 12 months in new French oak casks before being bottled unfiltered. The name Anima Negra translates as "black soul," but there is nothing sinister about it. The wine's dense plum color is accompanied by a distinctive, earthy bouquet offering scents of volcanic ash intermixed with asphalt, plums, and cherries. It is a medium-bodied, silky-textured, serious effort that can be drunk now, or cellared for 5-7 years.Importer: Jorge Ordonez, Fine Estates From Spain, Dedham, MA; tel. (781) 461-5767
