Picked on October 8, the 2013 Volnay 1er Cru Santenots had been impacted by the hailstorm and underwent a light chaptalization. It comes from the younger vines in the Clos de Santenots monopole. The nose is quite smooth and rounded, the new oak shaving off any hard edges, but slightly obscuring the terroir expression. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chewy tannins. There is quite a lot of wood tannin here at the moment, and hopefully it will develop more Volnaysian "flesh" by the time of bottling.
