The 2009 Barolo Pernanno is the least impressive from this lineup. There’s a distant note of apple skin that might point to minor volatile acidity, although it doesn’t take too much away from the overall wine. Beyond that, you’ll find layers of prune, cassis, leather and spice. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018. It must be the name “Adelaide” that leads my thoughts to exotic and far-away Australia, but every time I encounter the wines from this estate, the words “New World” immediately come to mind. It’s a little wine-tinted Rorschach test that never fails.
