Allegrini’s 2005 Villa Giona is a great bottle of Veronese red. This dense, mouth filling wine boasts incredible density and richness in its dark blackberries, grilled herbs and spices. The warm microclimate of this vineyard was clearly a help in the challenging 2005 harvest and is felt in the wine’s round, harmonious finish. Villa Giona is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 10% Syrah that spent 20 months in 100% new French oak barrels prior to being bottled. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2021.
Allegrini is one of Veneto’s reference-point producers. The estate is best known for their Amarone, which is one of the fresher versions being made today. Notes from a recent vertical of the estate’s Amarones back to 1982 will be available in the near future on www.erobertparker.com.
