The estate’s Villa Giona bottling is produced in a vineyard which the family felt was better suited to international rather than indigenous varietals. The 2004 Villa Giona (50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 10% Syrah) reveals a deep color along with a nuanced personality in the layered aromas and flavors that flow from the glass. Expressive plum, new leather and sweet toasted oak all make an appearance in this jammy, unctuous wine. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2016.
This is a terrific set of consistently excellent to outstanding wines from Allegrini. Readers will also find a number of value-priced wines that offer notable quality for the money.
