I have always been a fan of Duboeuf's Fleurie Chateau Deduits. My affection for the wines from this estate goes back to the early eighties. I can remember sumptuous bottles of the 1985 and 1989 that drank well for 4-5 years. They may have lasted even longer if I had not exhausted my stock. The knock-out 1993 exhibits a deep ruby/purple color, a fabulous nose of jammy, cassis fruit, great extraction of fruit, and a long, opulent, flashy finish. Drink this sexy Fleurie over the next 3-4 years. Everyone who enjoys Beaujolais is a sucker for Duboeuf's Fleurie. Wines from this village tend to be gutsy and lavishly fruity, with flamboyant bouquets of cassis and flowers. Duboeuf hit the jackpot with his five 1993 Fleuries, all of which are of exceptionally high quality. As in 1991, the Beaujolais region was able to harvest nearly two-thirds of its crop under splendid weather conditions, escaping most of the damage caused by the deluges that swept across France. The "King of Beaujolais," Georges Duboeuf, has recently released many of his flower label bottlings and separate domaine bottlings of 1993 Beaujolais. They are once again excellent wines that represent terrific values. Recent medical news that moderate red wine consumption can have positive health benefits should help increase the sale and consumption of Beaujolais! After years of ignoring my advice, even my teetotalling mother now consumes a few glasses of Beaujolais each day. High quality, low prices, and numerous possibilities for pleasure is all there can be said about Duboeuf's first releases from the 1993 vintage!
